Who We Are
Our History
Mission
Advocate for survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault, helping them reach their full potential, and educating our community from a Latine perspective to eliminate family violence.
Vision
Guiding the community from survival to well-being.
History
MiA - Mujeres in Action is the first organization in the Spokane region dedicated to serving survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Latine communities.
MiA began in 2018 when founder and executive director Hanncel Sanchez realized there was a gap in culturally responsive services for Spanish-speaking survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. In late September 2018, MiA officially launched into the community and has since been providing life-saving and culturally responsive services and resources to Latine survivors and their families, as well as community outreach for prevention of domestic violence.
In late 2019, MiA obtained a grant from Inatai Foundation, formerly known as Group Health Foundation, which allowed it to hire its first staff. MiA has grown exponentially and has launched several victim support programs and adapted to meet the needs of the community.
MiA - Mujeres en Acción is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and material or cash donations made to MiA - Mujeres en Acción are fully tax deductible (83-2464309).
